Van Mahotsav 2025 Celebration held at PEC

In a significant step towards environmental sustainability the Estate Office of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh in association with UT Administration Celebrated Van Mahotsav 2025 with a large-scale plantation drive on 5th July 2025.

The was graced by Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria Ji, whose presence and vision served as the cornerstone of this initiative. The celebrations begins with a ceremonial plantation of an Areca Palm sapling by the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab along with Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, esteemed Director of PEC; Col. R.M. Joshi, Registrar; Faculty members and staff members of Estate Office. 

More than 600 saplings of medicinal herbs, flowering plants, mango trees, hibiscus and areca palms were planted across the PEC Campus. This green initiative forms part of a broader citywide movement, with plantation activities being carried out at 253 designated locations throughout Chandigarh. 

The mission, led by the Department of Forests & Wildlife, UT Chandigarh, aims to plant over one lakh saplings in a single day—a landmark effort in urban greening. Van Mahotsav 2025 is envisioned not as a symbolic gesture, but as a mass community-driven movement for ecological conservation. 

By bringing together government bodies, educational institutions, scientific communities, and the general public, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for PEC, Chandigarh and beyond.
