Railways, a symbol of India’s unity : Bandaru Dattatraya

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated the redeveloped Mandi Dabwali Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. During the event, organized from Bikaner, Rajasthan, Prime Minister Shri Modi dedicated 103 redeveloped railway stations to the nation. The redevelopment of Mandi Dabwali station involved an investment of approximately Rs 13 crore.

Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and inspected the station premises. He interacted with staff and passengers at the ticket counter and enquiry center and also honored family members of freedom fighters.

Governor Shri Dattatraya highlighted that under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a total of 1,309 railway stations are being redeveloped across India, of which work on 103 stations has been completed. Describing Indian Railways as the lifeline of the nation, he said it transports millions of people daily across vast distances. 

In light of increasing population and the need to meet global infrastructure standards, redevelopment of railway stations is the need of the hour. He informed that in the Bikaner Division of the North Western Railway, 77 stations are being redeveloped at a cost of nearly Rs 4,000 crore. Mandi Dabwali, located on the Haryana-Punjab border and known as a cultural confluence, holds both historical and cultural significance.

The Governor noted that the redeveloped station features modern amenities such as a new ticket counter, spacious waiting hall, special facilities for differently-abled passengers, water booths, improved signage, coach indication boards, and a foot over-bridge. 

Enhancements have also been made to the circulating area, arrival-departure management, and parking facilities. Calling Indian Railways a symbol of national unity, the Governor said it connects East to West and North to South. He urged every family to undertake at least one railway journey each year to visit historical and religious places. 

He also praised Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini for prioritizing infrastructure development in the rail sector.Governor Shri Dattatraya emphasized that improved infrastructure leads to job creation, economic prosperity, and new employment opportunities, accelerating the state’s development. 

He called the inauguration of 103 redeveloped stations a historic milestone — one that will not only enhance passenger convenience but also boost tourism, employment, and regional development. The Mandi Dabwali Railway Station now stands as a symbol of modernity and efficiency, setting new standards in passenger services.
