While interacting with the people in Sarsini, Hassanpur and Chandiala villages, on Sunday, he also solicited suggestions from the people on how the drug problem can be eradicated in Punjab and especially in their villages. He said that the aim of the drug addiction visits, is to connect the people with the Bhagwant Singh Mann government’s campaign, “Yudh Nasheya Virudh” against drugs and make Punjab drug-free.
He said that under this outreach campaign, gram sabhas are being held in about 351 villages every day across the state. Three villages have been selected in each assembly constituency, where this movement will be further strengthened with the participation of the public.
MLA Randhawa, while talking about the achievements of the government’s campaign against drugs, said that so far, bulldozers have been driven on the illegal properties of 86 drug smugglers, and 75 smugglers have been caught through encounters. From this, it is clear that the intention and strategy of the government is absolutely clear and unambiguous – either quit drugs or quit Punjab.
He said that during the campaign, such warriors are also being honored, who fought the darkness of drugs and broke that cycle and came out as de-addicted heros. He said that such people are a real source of inspiration. He said that we should support such people by giving them a chance to move forward, only then, we can win this fight.
MLA Randhawa clarified that these drug-free Punjab journies are not a political journey, it is a social concept, for which every section of the society, every panchayat, every youth, every parent needs to join this movement. He said that this fight is aiming at Punjab drug-free and carries a common cause for all of us.
He also administered an oath to everyone on this occasion, which included a pledge to make Punjab drug-free, to make every citizen a guard of his village and not allow drugs to enter the village, not to look at drug addicts with contempt, to show them the right path through treatment, to help them in rehabilitation, not to give any kind of patronage to drug smugglers, not to help them in getting bail, etc.
