16.35 crore approved for building a two kilometer long wall around Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area, it will protect from floods

Due to efforts by Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij, a concrete wall spanning two kilometers will be constructed around the Ambala Cantonment Industrial Area at a cost of Rs. 16.35 crore to protect it from flooding. The state government has approved this amount and tenders for construction will be floated in the coming days.
Sh.Vij held a review meeting today at his residence in Ambala Cantonment with officers from HSIIDC (Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation) and other departments to discuss ongoing developmental projects in Ambala. He explained that the wall will be built using strong RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) and will be six feet above road level.
In addition, two more water pumps have been installed to drain floodwater from the area, bringing the total number of pumps to four. It is notable that in 2023, the Tangri River flooded the surrounding areas in Ambala Cantonment, causing significant damage to the industrial area.
To prevent such losses in the future, Energy Minister Sh. Anil Vij had directed the construction of this protective wall, which has now received financial approval.
Development Review with Irrigation Department Officers
Energy and Transport Minister Sh. Anil Vij also reviewed the project to deepen the bed of the Tangri River with officers from the Irrigation Department. He instructed them to complete the work swiftly before the monsoon season begins. Deepening the riverbed will prevent the water from breaching embankments during heavy rainfall.
He also reviewed the lining work of the Mahesh Nagar Drain, and issued directives to widen the Gudgudia Drain near the LNB Line to improve water flow. Further, he instructed completion of the causeway construction at Brahman Majra and Shahpur and to raise the height of the causeway at Ghaseetpur.
Development Review with Municipal Council Officers
Energy Minister Sh. Anil Vij also reviewed development activities with Municipal Council officers. He directed that children’s swings in Subhash Park be repaired and new swings installed if needed. He also gave instructions for repairs in the open gym and for improving cleanliness in the main markets and other areas of the city.
Redressed Public Grievances and Directed for Action
Sh. Vij also redressed public grievances at his residence in Ambala today and issued instructions for action to the concerned officials. A woman from the cantonment said that the police have not taken concrete action regarding her son’s murder case, to which Sh. Vij directed the DSP, Cantonment to act promptly.
Similarly, a woman from Mahesh Nagar complained about not being provided an electricity connection, while a woman from Kachha Bazaar reported her son as missing. Sh. Vij listened to several other complaints and directed relevant officials/officers to take appropriate action.
Among those present were DGM Ajay Bansal and Senior Manager Baldev from HSIIDC Ambala, SE Munish Bhardwaj and XEN Krishan Bhukkal from the Irrigation Department, EO Devendra Kumar, DSP Cantonment Ramesh Kumar, XEN from the Energy Department and other departmental officers/officials.
