Sangrur residents enthusiastically participate in ‘Half Marathon’ on 115th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Sangrur : On the occasion of 115th birth anniversary of the young legendary martyr Sardar Bhagat Singh, a ‘Half Marathon’ was organized by the district administration today from the War Heroes Stadium.

The 5-km run was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Jitendra Jorwal in which students, youth and district residents participated with full enthusiasm. On this occasion, a police party Sangrur led by parade commander DSP Prithvi Singh Chahal presented guard of honour to Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

After this ceremony, Chief Minister Punjab S. Bhagwant Maan’s message was also shared with the people of the district on a large video screen.On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal said that today was a very proud day for the country as Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh was born on September 28.

He added that the legendary martyr was hanged to death when he was just 23 years old. He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has started taking initiatives to transform the nation as per the dreams of Sardar Bhagat Singh’s and these initiatives will be carried out with full dedication by the district administration.

He said that according to the instructions of the Punjab government, various activities were being conducted today in the entire district on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. He said that apart from the ‘Half Marathon’, a candle march was also being held in the evening in Sangrur.

Jitendra Jorwal said that to pay homage to the sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the heritage buildings located in Banasar Bagh have been decorated with colorful lights.He appealed that the residents of the district should contribute to the progress of the country by adopting the thinking of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

On this occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varjit Walia, SDM Sangrur Navreet Kaur Sekhon, Assistant Commissioner Devdarshdeep Singh, District Sports Officer Ranbir Singh, District Education Officer Kultaranjit Singh, students of various schools and colleges and a large number of district residents were present.
