Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today said that a mega project worth Rs. 32 Crore had been initiated at PAP junction, which would ensure easing out of traffic flow at this busy point with its completion by the end of June next.While taking stock of project by visiting the site on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner said that the project would also facilitate the daily hundreds of commuters to get direct access towards Amritsar from BSF Chowk side as presently they had move towards Rama Mandi Chowk for taking u-turn for Amritsar thus fulfilling long pending demand of city residents. Jalandhar : Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today said that a mega project worth Rs. 32 Crore had been initiated at PAP junction, which would ensure easing out of traffic flow at this busy point with its completion by the end of June next.While taking stock of project by visiting the site on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner said that the project would also facilitate the daily hundreds of commuters to get direct access towards Amritsar from BSF Chowk side as presently they had move towards Rama Mandi Chowk for taking u-turn for Amritsar thus fulfilling long pending demand of city residents. Thori mentioned that a project worth Rs. 32 crore had already been initiated to build a new Railway over Bridge (ROB) at PAP railway crossing besides a new ramp would also be constructed to provide direct access to commuters towards Amritsar. Another ramp will also be constructed on the other side of the bridge on Amritsar-Ludhiana highway, which would ensure easy access of those people, who wanted to enter the city.The project director of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Yashpal Sharma apprised the deputy commissioner that the modalities for the projects were on advanced stage of completion and tenders are set to be floated by December.
The work would be completed within six months after issuance of work order, he added. The project director further added that by the end of June 2021, the entire project would be accomplished.The deputy commissioner further said that another project to improvise traffic junction at PAP chowk was underway which would cost around Rs. 7 crore. Thori said that to ensure smooth flow of inbound and outbound traffic at PAP chowk and minimise road accidents a massive roundabout was coming up there besides other beautification works were also being undertaken. He said that various types of trees and plants were being planted at the roundabout which would give this chowk a mesmerising look. The deputy commissioner said that a modular rainwater harvesting system was developed beneath roundabout which was first of its kind in the Punjab as it would recharge all the rain water of surrounding areas. Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included SDM Rahul Sindhu, SDM Jaiinder Singh, Assistant Commissioner Hardeep Singh, and others.
