Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar : In line Punjab Government’s efforts to minimise formalities in installation of telecom towers, the District Administration Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has ordered the PSPCL officials to accept approval by District Level Telecom Committee as NOC (No Objection Certificate) from now onwards. Deciding a case of Zirakpur in which PSPCL officials had sought a separate NOC from the firm before releasing Commercial Power Connection for installing a tower, the Deputy Commissioner Mrs Aashika Jain clarified that there will be no need of separate NOC from Municipal Council when the District Level Telecom Committee has already given its nod.
She said the committee formed by the state is working effectively to eliminate Red-Tapism by ending unwanted procedures of approval. She said that the committee considers only those cases in which all the requisite permissions have been procured from the various departments and after that to demand separate NOC is not acceptable, which causes harassment.
Besides, the Deputy Commissioner led committee also decided to deal with the towers installed without the permission of committee, strictly. Rejecting the application of an applicant from Sunny Enclave for legalised his tower installation whose power connection has been discontinued the committee agreed to accede with the demand of locals to not permit the installation of this tower.
Similarly, she ordered GMADA to immediately remove a tower installed in sector 78 sans permission from competent authority for its installation. Apart from that the committee also given its consent to take action against a Mobile/BTS Tower erected on rooftop of private residential building in phase 7 of Mohali.
Deputy Commissioner directed the local area authorities, be it GMADA or Urban Local Body to take swift action against the installation of towers having no permission. She also insisted upon need of installation of towers in rural areas/uncovered service areas to provide the remote areas better communication facility.
She said that the villages in New Chandigarh sans better mobile phone coverage had once sought to install mobile towers in their villages, have been met with four out of demanded six towers so far and the rest of the two would also be installed shortly as the permission already been granted. She said that District Level Telecom Committee has given a nod to 78 towers so far.
