Flags off anti-dengue rally from the district hospital

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar : Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain flagged off the anti-dengue rally from the district hospital Mohali with the slogan ‘Har Shukkarvar (Every Friday), Dengue Te Vaar (attack)’ as a part of IEC activities to prevent dengue outbreak in the district .
She said that as per the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, the special campaign had been started across the Punjab to protect the residents from dengue fever. She said that if precautions and guidelines were not followed properly, dengue fever can prevail at large scale as the weather is dengue larvae conducive.
Therefore, it is important to know about the symptoms, causes, prevention and treatment of dengue fever. She said that the teams of the health department have been going from house to house to check dengue larvae continuously and challans have also been issued.
But as a part of awareness, such activities like awareness marches are also being carried out side by side to keep the residents alert of dengue. She said that issuing the challan is like an enforcement activity as most of the people are taking larvae seriously.
If people are aware, then they themselves will not allow standing water in their houses or anywhere around them, which will not breed mosquitoes responsible for dengue fever. Civil surgeon Dr Mahesh Kumar Ahuja said that dengue is a disease of our lifestyle and habits.
It can easily be avoided if we all stay alert and take requisite precautions. He said that preventing the breeding of mosquitoes that spread dengue fever is the only effective way to avoid this disease by adding that dengue is a fever caused by the bite of Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
Mosquitoes that spread dengue, breed in stagnant clean water such as in coolers, water tanks, flower pots, trays behind refrigerators, broken/discarded utensils and tyres etc. He said that dengue fever test and treatment is absolutely free in government hospitals.
