S.A.S Nagar : In order to curb the further spread of Covid-19 pandemic, the vaccination drive isgoing on with full steam in all the health blocks of the district. Civil Surgeon Dr. Adarshpal Kaur said that so far a total of 4,74,708 people have been vaccinated in the district. Among these, 49,011 people have been vaccinated with Covaxine and 4,25,697with Covishield. Many of them are yet to be given second dose. She reiterated that there is no shortage of vaccine in the district and all the beneficiaries should not shy away from getting vaccinated.She also said that it is very important to take precautions even after vaccination. Many people feel that there is no need to wear a mask after vaccination but this notion is completely wrong. The Civil Surgeon added that although the Covid restrictions have been substantially lifted, precautions like wearing masks, keeping distance from each other and frequent hand washing need to be taken as before.
She appealed to the people to get out of the house only when there is an urgent need.Dr. Adarshpal informed that at present 18 to 44 year age group people, registered industrial workers, construction workers, family members of health care workers and persons suffering from serious illnesses are being vaccinated with the vaccine received from Punjab government. With vaccine received from the Government of India, people over 45 years, health care workers and front line workers are being covered. She said that from June 21, the vaccination would be administered to all persons above the age of 18.She said that the health department has been doing its best to curb the further spread of the disease but without the cooperation and support of the people, it is very difficult to completely eradicate the disease. People should strictly follow government guidelines. The Civil Surgeon also asked people to visit hospitals in case of any serious problem only. Instead, they should contact the health department’s helpline 104 for the expert advice.
