Chandigarh : Taking strong notice of the protests by schedule caste students alleging non-issuance of roll numbers by colleges of the students studying under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, National Commission for Scheduled Castes on the orders of it’s Chairman Vijay Sampla has issued notice to the Government of Punjab asking them to ensure the immediate release of the roll numbers.It is pertinent to note that various private colleges of Punjab especially the one in district Barnala are forcing SC students to submit fees as a pre-condition for the release of their roll numbers.CSC has issued notice to Chief Secretary Punjab, Principal Secretary Department of Social Justice, empowerment & minorities, Deputy Commissioner and SSP Barnala asking them to submit with fifteen days, the facts and information on the action taken on the allegations/matter. Sampla warned that stopping the Roll number or withholding the degree of any student admitted under post-matric scholarship is an offence. Strict action will be taken against the erring colleges/institutes.Sampla cautioned the officers that if action taken report is not received with in the stipulated time, then Commission may exercise the powers of the civil courts conferred on it under article 338 of the constitution of India and issue summons for personal appearance before the commission in Delhi.
