Jalandhar :  Member Parliament Chaudhary Santokh Singh on Thursday urged all people above the age of 18 years to register for the mega vaccination drive being rolled out from May 1, 2021 in the country. He said that vaccination is the only solution to tide over this current health crisis prevailing out of the second wave of virus.The Member Parliament was chairing a district level review meeting at district administrative complex, Jalandhar with the officers of Civil administration, Police and health departments.While reviewing the administration’s preparedness to tackle the second wave of Covid-19 in the district, the MP accompanied by Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja, MLAs Rajinder Beri, Avtar Singh Bawa Henry, Surinder Chaudhry, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, SSP Dr. Sandeep Garg, and DCP Gurmeet Singh took stock of various steps being taken to win this war against the virus.The Member Parliament laid focus on the need for involving people’s representatives in the vaccination drive as it could lead to maximum immunization in the district. He appealed to people to register themselves at www.cowin.gov.in to be able to get vaccinated when it was rolled out for the people above 18, adding that he had already taken the vaccine jab long ago protecting himself from the Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner informed the MP and MLAs that 28 permanent mobile vaccination camps were started at various locations to cover all 80 wards in the city. The MP asked the officers to involve people’s representatives including all councilors, Sarpanches to ensure maximum participation in these camps. After taking stock of healthcare infrastructure in the district, the MP said that there was sufficient availability of beds and oxygen cylinders in the district so tackle this second wave and people need not to be panicky in view of the prevailing situations.The Member Parliament directed police authorities in the district to take stern action against those violating government protocols, curfew guidelines so that virus spread could be kept under check. He also asked the officials to strictly enforce weekend lockdown restrictions and night curfew as mandated by the state government while keeping a close tab over the gatherings at social events.The MP reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensure best of the healthcare facilities amid this pandemic and mentioned that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led state government was fully geared up to combat this second wave efficiently, however, he solicited people’s support to contain virus spread. He also stated that the Chief Minister’s announcement to provide vaccination free-of-cost to eligible the beneficiaries was a landmark decision to promote Immunization among people.Prominent among others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, SDMs Dr. Jai Inder Singh, Gautam Jain, Dr. Vineet Bajaj, Dr. Sanjiv Sharma, Civil Surgeon Dr. Balwant Singh, Congress Leader Vikramjit Chaudhry, Jagbir Brar and others.
