Strongly Condemned Lakhimpur Kheri Incident, Says Punjab Government Giving Financial Assistance Of Rs. 50 Lakh To Family Of Each Deceased Farmer

Jalandhar : Punjab Social Justice, Empowerment & Minorities and Medical Education & Research Minister Raj Kumar Verka today announced that the Punjab Government would soon regularise the services of nearly 10,000 safai sewaks in the state as the process had already been initiated.After assuming the charge as Cabinet Minister, Dr. Raj Kumar Verka, who reached on Wednesday evening reached here at Circuit House, lashed out at Uttar Pradesh Government for throttling country’s democracy with ‘Talibani attack’ on farmers protesting peacefully. There is no rule of law in Uttar Pradesh especially the democratic setup has been turned into dictatorship since the BJP doesn’t believe in democracy, he added.Strongly condemning the attack on farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri, the Minister said that the attack was committed at the behest of UP’s Talibani Government as earlier the protests were shattered but now the UP Government started running over vehicles on farmers. A delegation led by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and other senior leaders of party has arrived at Lakhimpur Kheri to raise the voice for justice to for the deceased and injured families.

Punjab Government is also extending all possible help to the deceased families besides a monetary assistance of Rs. 50 lakh to each family of deceased farmers is also being given by the State Government, he added.Describing Charanjit Singh Channi led Punjab Government as peoples’ Government, Dr. Raj Kumar Verka said that this is really Government of people and for the people. Answering a query regarding shortage of time to deliver the promises, the Minister said that Government had plenty of time that can be gauged from the fact of decisions being taken by the Channi Government including waiver of water bills and outstanding dues of electricity bills as Rs. 1200 crore had been set aside for this purpose. The decision of State Government taken in a few days after taking reins by CM Channi left the opposition issueless.Referring to a query, the Minister announced that in a first phase as many as nearly 10000 safai sewaks were being regularised within this month. Prominently amongst those present on the occasion included Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja, Additional Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagmohan Singh, ADCP Jagjit Saroa, and others. Earlier, officials from district administration offered bouquets to the minister.
