Chandigarh : International Kabaddi player Gurlal Ghanaur on Monday joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with hundreds of his associates. AAP’s state president and MP Bhagwant Mann, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema and Delhi MLA and co-incharge of Punjab affairs Raghav Chadha formally inducted and welcomed Gurlal Ghanaur and his associates at the party headquarters here. On the occasion, Bhagwant Mann said that today due to the anti-people policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Captain Amarinder Singh; sportspersons, lawyers, journalists and social activists from all walks of life are joining the AAP. He said that today the joining of Gurlal Ghanaur, an international Kabaddi player and winner of several World Kabaddi Cups, has gained strength in the convoy of players and workers associated with the party.Mann said that Gurlal Ghanaur is still adorned on the field of Kabaddi and has resigned from the post of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Punjab Police, to serve the people of Punjab. Responding to the questions of mediapersons, Bhagwant Mann said that the Aam Aadmi Party would oppose the Power Amendment Bill being introduced by the Union government in Parliament and on the streets. He appealed to the Union government not to further harass the people of the country through the electricity bills, when the farmers of the country were protesting against the three black agricultural laws.
Raghav Chadha said that Gurlal Ghanaur would outdo his opponents in the field of politics just like the Kabaddi tournament. He said that the service rendered to Punjab by Gurlal Ghanaur through the game of Kabaddi has been instilled in the hearts of the people of Punjab. Along with Gurlal Ghanaur, Mintu Sarpanch, Captain Didar Singh, Darshan Singh, Bagga Singh and all the players and coaches were welcomed in the party. Expressing happiness over joining the Aam Aadmi Party, international Kabaddi player Gurlal Ghanaur said that he was impressed by the development work and policies of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP government in Delhi.Gurlar Ghanaur said that there was a need for political change in Punjab as the policies of the Punjab government were not towards the respect of the players. He said that a cash prize of up to Rs 3 lakh was given by the Haryana government for playing as a representative of the state of Haryana, but in Punjab the player is paid a meager amount. Promising to support the Aam Aadmi Party in every possible way, Gurlal said that the Aam Aadmi Party government would be formed in Punjab in 2022. AAP MLAs Master Baldev Singh Jaito, Principal Budhram, Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Kulwant Singh Pandori, party’s state general secretary Harchand Singh Barsat and other senior leaders were present on the occasion.
