Hoshiarpur : On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and DGP Dinkar Gupta, the District Police on Friday started its ‘COVID Canteen’ in local police lines to make the prepared food available at the doorsteps of needy and poor COVID positive patients. While getting the COVID canteen started in Police Lines, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said that on receiving calls on helpline numbers 112/181 from the poor COVID patients the teams exclusively deputed for this purpose would provide the food to them at the earliest. The operation of COVID Canteen will be supervised by the SP (D) Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu along with DSPs Jaspreet Singh and Madhavi Sharma at Police Lines, said the SSP adding that this canteen would cater to the COVID positive patients in Hoshiarpur City and its adjoining villages. Mahal stated that DSPs had been directed in all other sub-divisions to ensure that the food would be provided to patients at their doorsteps after receiving calls on helpline numbers. The food will contain a Daal, vegetable, salad and chapattis, which is healthy, pure and hygienic. The food to these patients would be taken in food delivery vans of Hoshiarpur police.Giving information about the first call, the SSP said that maiden call had been received from Tanda area, where a person was COVID positive and his wife was tested negative but they were unable to have food. He said that after getting information on helpline the police team reached the spot with food. This humanitarian gesture will be immensely beneficial for the needy patients, who are not able to get food, said the SSP adding that poor COVID positive patients, who needs food, could make call on the said helpline numbers at any time. He said that the District Police had also taken commendable steps to save people from several crisis during the first wave of COVID and reiterated that the police would make all out efforts to contain further spread of infection in larger public interest with peoples’ support and cooperation in these trying circumstances.APPEALS PEOPLE NOT TO BE COMPLACENT ON COVID APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR FRONTS: Navjot Singh Mahal also made a strong appeal to people for adapting all health safety protocols in their daily routines especially proper wearing of masks, maintaining social distancing and strictly follow gathering directives. It is high time to adopt COVID appropriate behaviour in larger public interest, he added.
