Cholera Outbreak : Girish Dayalan visits ground zero; Instructs officials to provide best medical care

S.A.S. Nagar/ Zirakpur : After the reports of Cholera outbreak, Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan accompanied by officials of Health Department, Water Supply & Sanitation and other departments, Thursday visited Ekta Vihar Colony of Zirakpur and CHC Dhakoli, where patients were admitted after the outbreak.During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner assured that best health care facilities being provided to the residents of the area and water supplies to be continued in the area through water tankers till the problem of contaminated water is not resolved. Informing about the actions being taken to prevent further spreading of the disease, he said that medical teams have been stationed there from the very first day of the outbreak. Our teams have also taken samples of tubewell water to find the source of the outbreak and district administration also asked Deputy Commissioner Panchkula to check the sources of contamination in their respective area. He directed the MC Officials to ensure distribution of ORS packets.
Chlorine tablets to every household of the area.The Deputy Commissioner said that Medical team and ambulance has permanently been stationed there. He also visited the Community Health Centre (CHC) Dhakoli and enquired about the health of the 30 patients admitted here and asked to provide best health care facilities. He said that if the situation deteriorated further then a dedicated makeshift treatment facility would be established in Baltana area. He informed that a total 340 cases have come to light and district administration is firing on all cylinders to contain the spreading.Urging the people to take corrective measures, Mr. Dayalan said that key factors are access to safe drinking-water, use of improved sanitation; hand washing with soap; good personal and food hygiene and Rehydration with oral rehydration salts (ORS) solution. The Deputy Commissioner also directed the health officials to scale up the distribution of Zinc supplements and ORS packets in this area as well as neighbouring areas and ensure that every household would get these life-saving drugs.
