Be extra vigilant on 16 Inter State entry points to check paddy smuggling from other states; DC instructs officials

Mohali : In view of ensuing paddy procurement season, the Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia asked the police department be extra vigilant on 16 Inter-state check points to check smuggling of paddy in the district from other parts of the country.In a meeting with Police, Food Supply, Agriculture and other allied departments, the Deputy Commissioner said that strictly monitoring of rice shellers should be ensured so that the menace of recycling of paddy could be under check. Instructing to be extra conscious on 16 Inter State Entry Points of the district, she said that the proper arrangements in tandem of all stakeholder departments should be made to check smuggling of paddy. She also asked the Agriculture and Mandi Board officials to gear up for the upcoming paddy procurement season so that farmers are facilitated in the grain markets during the entire operation. She said that the Covid-19 pandemic was posing a major danger to human life, thus it was need of the hour to ensure strict adherence to medical protocol during procurement. She also directed to ensure updation of girdawaris on portal for smooth payment through DBT mode.The Deputy Commissioner said that the state government will made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the harvest of farmers was lifted from the grain markets in a smooth and hassle free manner.

She said that farmer would not be allowed to face any sort of problem while selling their produce. The Deputy Commissioner said that besides procurement a proper mechanism will be evolved for the proper transportation and storage of the grains. She asked officials of all procurement agencies to personally supervise the procurement operations ensuring prompt and smooth procurement, lifting and payment of paddy as per their allotted share of procurement.Ms. Kalia instructed to make requisite arrangement of power, sheds for the farmers, potable water supply and equipment to monitor the quality of wheat in each procurement centre. Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner also directed to officers to make foolproof arrangements in mandis to avoid the spread of Corona virus by strictly adhering to the safety precautions laid by state government. She also urged to the farmers’ to bring moisture free grains to the market.
