Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar addresses International Conference on Reformist Approaches to Human Rights at Shoolini University

Shimla : Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that the responsibility for the protection of human rights begins with the individual himself and he should take this process forward. “Let me change my thought process and protect the right of freedom of others”, said Sh. Arlekar.

The Governor was addressing the International Conference on Reformist Approaches to Human Rights at Shoolini University at Bajhol in Solan district on Thursday. The conference was organized by the faculty of legal science in collaboration with the Human Rights Commission.

He said that the common man also has a defined life, and it was our responsibility to respect and protect them. He said that legislative reforms and rules also help in leading a dignified life. He said that cases of human rights violations were witnessed all over the world, whereas their mindset was to point fingers at us.

He said that their aim was to damage our image. “Dharma is inherent in all of us. We respect the thoughts and actions of others. It is our philosophy to respect the views of others”, said the Governor.He said that despite the legal provisions, cases of human rights violations came to the fore while it was a thought process which needed to be changed.

He said that we have to be a good person first, as a result of which life starts changing automatically. He called upon the youth to bring change in their thoughts and take the country forward in the direction of development.

He said that only the thoughts of the youth could bring change.The Governor also launched a book on ‘Reformative Approaches to Human Rights’ Published by HP Hamilton (London) on the occasion.Justice Rajeev Sharma, Former Acting Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Uttarakhand High Court explained about freedom of speech and expression.

He said that we should protect the rights of others and fight against injustice in many ways. He also raised issues of global warming.Earlier, Prof P.K. Khosla, Chancellor, Shoolini University welcomed the Governor on the occasion.

Prof. Rajeshwar Chandel, Vice Chancellor, University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni briefed about the right to live a healthy life and said that it was the core issue of today. He correlated healthy life with natural farming.

Major General Atul Kaushik, Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Private Universities Regulatory Commission and Avtar Chand Dogra, Member, Human Rights Commission also spoke on the occasion.Vishal Anand, Trustee and Pro Chancellor proposed a vote of Thanks.

Deputy Commissioner Kritika Kulhari, SP Virender Sharma, members of trust, deans, directors, representatives from various NGOs, delegates, resource persons, students and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
